Many have tried, and many have yearned to reach the culmination in the hip-hop scene. Most especially female rappers. None have succeeded, but not Nicki.
Yes, Nicki Minaj gave us ‘Superbass’, ‘Starship’, and ‘Anaconda’. But ‘Super Freaky Girl‘ is metempsychosis of all three lead singles combined. Nicki’s recent single proves again why she isn’t just ‘Queen of Rap’ but the ‘Queen Of Music’.
Super Freaky Girl is fun, brilliant, infectious, and drama. This song is skillfully written, and bodes well with the current musical climate.
The first verse ushers in,
One thing about me, I’m the baddest alive
He know the prettiest bitch didn’t come until I arrive
I don’t let bitches get to me, I fuck they man if they try
I got a princess face, a killer body, samurai mind
They can’t be Nicki, they so stupid, I just laugh when they try
Nicki is reminding folks she is still the hottest artist on this planet, not look wise only but the whole package. She backs up her bold assertion with ‘I got a princess face, a killer body, samurai mind’ adding to her sharp pen.
Then the first verse ends with,
On applications I write “pressure” ’cause that’s what I apply
This stratified bar is why I don’t just love Nicki but love reviewing her songs. She is saying she puts not only or applies pressure onto her industry “colleagues” but literally what she writes is so skillful that it frightens people. Also adding that another meaning, writing the word pressure on applications, and of course applications is where you “apply.”Genius.
The addition of the pre-chorus is needed, it overextends the ending of the first verse. She says,
P-P-P-Pressure applied, can’t f*ck a regular guy
Wetter than umbrellas and stickier than apple pie
The second verse—is my absolute favorite. Nicki Minaj brought out ‘popnika’ on this verse, the animations, fast-rapping, and cadence.
Nicki draws back to her 2013 “Boss Ass B*tch” remix when she starts the verse,
‘Cause, what the f*ck? This ain’t Chanel, nigga, custom down?
Like, what the f*ck? This ain’t Burberry, custom brown.
Then in true Nicki fashion, throws in a double entendre line with,
Then he said “Do that p*ssy purr?” I said “Yup, meow,”
As I’m processing this cat double entendre line, she jumps back in with,
Keep these bitches on they toes like Manolo
As in she keeps everyone on this planet on their toes literally and figuratively with her fashion statements just as Manolo heels. She then adds the “BOLO” line as an extension since it actually means “Be on the look out”
Nicki Minaj’s last three lines on this verse is another reason I love love her. Let’s break down the first line:
Made him say “Uh,” just ask Master P (Let’s go)
Back in the day, Master P released “Make Em Say Uhh.” Nicki is playing on the “make em uh” to “make dim say uh.”
The second last line says,
Ball so hard, I just took a knee (Let’s go)
On this line, she simply references the many times pro ballers took a knee when protesting against police or the like.
In the last line, she adds,
Get me rocky ASAP, nigga, word to Rih
Yeah when you read this lyric, you might think it’s so simple. Jokes on you. This is a powerful punch of an end to this verse. Nicki is asking her man to get her diamonds soon, but playing on ASAP’s name who is a rapper and boyfriend to Rihanna.
Super Freaky Girl earns a 9/10. Go listen and tell us what you think.
