Kansas City born, famously independent rapper Tech N9ne has done some pretty incredible things in his 32-year career. He started as an underground artist in 1991, going as far as allowing his fans to download his albums for free from his site to get as much reach as possible. Tech finally broke through to the mainstream with his album All 6’s & 7’s in 2011, but has always been adamant that he never went mainstream, “mainstream went Tech,” because none of his successes have ever been backed by a major record company.
Tech N9ne has been signing other artists to his label, Strange Music, since 2011, and even built a studio complex to have all their artistic needs met in one place back in 2012. In 2021, Tech released Asin9ne, an album showcasing rappers like Snow tha Product, Lil Wayne, and E-40 as features. Released on February 17, 2023, “Tell Everyone” starts with some chilling gospel vocals to set the mood, also hitting some vintage Tech tones, reminding me of the 2011 song “Stars” from the album Strangeland.
Tell Everyone Review
The chorus invites the listener to spread the word of Tech’s successes, starting out the song with lines like:
Tell everyone (that we got it) hey, hey
Tell everyone (that we solid) hey, hey
Tell everyone (that we make it) hey, hey
Tell everyone (that this bond we got it mean a lot to us and it’s sacred) hey, hey
In the first verse, Tech states who he is, and sends a message to the newer “click track” rappers, closing it out with:
On the path running fast I’m electro
I am the gas what they have in the manifesto
Try to beat us your label gonna be necro
Tell everyone we gonna be winners wit the Tech flow
Team is up cause everybody bring the trust
Seen the dust from me it really mean ya suck
The gospel style vocals at the beginning of the song return to provide the chorus of “Tell Everyone.”
Tech N9ne wraps up the second verse in a very similar fashion, stating:
Look at their faces I twist em like I ripped one
I coulda put a sound effect ya prolly need the clown for that
But the crown respect is what is in the town for Tech
Caught the L and you found regret
Yes you are very dumb (chyeah)
Cause you thought you was a boss something awfully scary comes
And yeah we buried em
My teams from a sanitarium so tell everyone
Finally, the single draws to a close with three full repetitions of the gospel style chorus. From a fan-standpoint, I feel like something is missing from this song. It has the vibe of a first track on a profound album, so I do feel a smidge unfulfilled because the song ends and there is nothing to follow it up. It’s also hard not to compare this song to Tech Nine songs of the past as it is a bit more mellow than usual. However, this song also leaves me excited for what 2023 may bring for Tech N9ne, because clearly, he is starting the year off with a bang.
