The Ivorian descent German bred, and London based has coughed up a succinct drill track ‘Messy.’ Ivorian Doll has never been one to sidestep from self-proclaiming as ‘Drill Queen’ which I can’t fault that considering her consistency with her releases.
‘Messy’ is less than 2 minutes, but Ivorian is riding this drill beat as flat as a pancake, that smoothly. It reminds me of ‘Lookin Ass’ by Nicki. But a 2022 British drill version. Drill music is dominant in the UK, and I can see why it is.
Ivorian Doll instantly starts with her chorus,
“Been bad since situation (Uh)
I ain’t gonna act complacent
God blessed me for the moves I’m makin’ (Blessed)
These girls wanna talk on me
If I overreact, I’ll end up in a station”
I love how she goes straight into her gritty lyrics through the chorus. This is exactly what characterizes drill music- violent and bold lyricism. Ivorian is simply giving a warning to some of her competitors around her rap circle. She glides on the drill beat effortlessly, every drop of the beat she runs with it. Her words together with her cunning confidence make you believe she will “end up in a station” if these girls want the smoke.
The switch up from the chorus to her verse is swift, fast but good. My favorite bar on this verse has to be when she spits,
“Can’t fool me if you’re talkin’ tough (Woo)
No rumours, but I’m makin’ it messy (Mm)
I’m the one that you see on the telly
I don’t play games, we ain’t friends, Edd and Eddy (Nah)
Although the song is short, it’s also a booster. Just one of a few who can rap without talking about the female external genitalia. Ivorian gave us impeccable flow, gritty lyrics, cadence, and crisp enunciation. Are you in accord with this drill number? Listen here.
