Kendrick Lamar released a snippet of his new music video on his Instagram feed. His caption repeated the title of the song “Count Me Out” from his recent album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.
The “Count Me Out” music video features Helen Mirren, an Oscar conquistador. She poses as his therapist in an intimate one-on-one session. The inquisition lands on Helen asking Kendrick Lamar about a woman he encountered at a parking lot who accused him of stealing her parking lot spot. This turns into a laughing moment between the rapper and the therapist. Seemingly, the conversation transcends into deeper waters. The therapist changes tactics and asks Kendrick about the text he sent her and why he did it. The text read “I feel like I’m fallen.”
Dave Free and Kendrick Lamar himself brilliantly directed the “Count me Out” music video. The direction takes us into various scenes of Kendrick trying to answer his therapist. These scenes go from the desert, a car, a herd of goat setting, having fun with friends and so many more.
Kendrick has stepped his game up with the release of his music videos this year. His rollout is pure artistry. Watch his “Count Me Out” music video here.
