Nicki Minaj had a historic month this July, from her Essence Festival performance, Wireless Festival in the UK to her earth-shattering meet-and-greet that followed the next day, and now a surprise drop. Just yesterday, Nicki went on an Instagram live to address a few things with her fans, then concluded the live by hinting at a surprise video drop if the Barbz trended the hashtag #NickiFreakyGirl to number 1 on Twitter.
With the hashtag reaching its number 1 status, Nicki‘s fans wondered in anticipation what the surprise video would entail. About an hour later or so, Nicki dropped the video on her Instagram feed.

The Surprise Video Drop
The video snippet shows Nicki wearing a yet-to-be-released bodysuit from Burberry, and a stance reminiscent of her famous Anaconda pose. The snippet samples Rick James’ “Super Freak” which shook the music industry in the 80s.
If you will remember, Rick James’ version packed loads of sexual innuendos and explicit words on every lyric, from start to finish. Here is what the original song says,
That girl is pretty wild now
(The girl’s a super freak)
The kind of girl you read about
(In new wave magazines)
That girl is pretty kinky
(The girl’s a super freak)
I really love to taste her
(Every time we meet)
Nicki’s snippet version is also full of explicit lyrics, she says,
I can lick it, I can ride it
While you slip and slide it
I can do all em little tricks and keep the dick up inside it
You can smack it, you can grip it
You can go down and kiss it
And every time he leave me alone he always tell me he miss it
He want a F R EEEE AK
F R EEEE AK AK AK
This isn’t Nicki’s first rodeo on this sample
For all Hip-Hop enthusiasts shall I say. Do you remember when Nicki first used Super Freak? She used it back in 2007, almost 15 years ago on “Dilly Dally” via her Playtime Is Over mixtape. Nicki went the old-school approach on “Dilly Dally,” her flow was traditional laid-back but full of gusto. Which isn’t shocking as that is/was how MCs went about using someone else’s original beat on their mixtape. It was always about “who did it best?”
On “Dilly Dally” my favorite lyric would be when Nicki said,
I used to make a dollar stretch like a Pilate
Now I gotta play the potty in Giuseppe Zanotti
Gotta push the Maserati, candy paint on the body
Making money off the hobby, taking flicks in the lobby
Look, I’m in the future, I’m ahead of my time
And you can’t duplicate it, I’m a one-of-a-kind
Then she finished it off by saying,
Bitches must be blind, cause these bitches can’t see me
Do it all for GP, tell ’em to suck a pee-pee
Monday, LA, Tuesday, I’m in DC
Get a ticket, or you only get a snippet
If you write your lyrics, little mama, I can dig it
I show you how to do it, what I do is really magic
Abracadab’ tricks are for kids, silly rabbit
That was a 24-year-old Nicki by the way. Spitting, and aura exuding confidence in spades. I am excited to see how she will spin this time around, the second time might be a charm. It is clear she is going upbeat with the tempo and with the flow. Release it already Nicki.
