Saweetie struts back into the music scene after an extensive hiatus with a new EP, “The Single Life.”
Saweetie has always been known for her work ethic, beauty, and her confidence. She’s had her ups and downs regarding her rap reputation being questioned daily on social media. But she’s back to set the records straight in her music.
Diamonté, professionally known as Saweetie dropped her latest project “The Single Life” and is led by the song “Don’t Say Nothin’.” The air of confidence is thick when you listen to the EP starting from the first track.
She described the creative direction of the lead track on the EP saying, “It’s my memoir as a single woman, dealing with men who talk too much. I put all of my experiences into one song. The studio is definitely therapy.” (Complex)
The project itself is solid and much better than expected. Her EP is a collection of musical gems and is very introspective with the topics she raps about. Saweetie raps about haters stalking her, past relationships that went sour, being a boss chick, alcoholism, past men she’s slept with, and therapy.
It’s a sad thing when it comes to navigating social media and its inhabitants’ opinions on Saweetie. As a rapper, people constantly pick her music apart along with her writing skills. But she’s no worse than many of the females actively promoting now.
This project clearly demonstrates growth within her lyricism, expressing vulnerability within her music and how she approaches music. Her song, “No Reception” is definitely one of her more introspective tracks. She raps about what she experienced publicly and privately in 2022. Love, fake people, mental health, and betrayal were definitely the lead topics in the song.
It would be a hard task to decide my personal standouts within the album because each song rolls into the other with intention. I highly recommend everyone listen to Saweetie’s new music.
