New York-born and bred DreamDoll invites us into her dream dollhouse project. This third installment of the “Life In Plastic” series was worth the wait.
DreamDoll has come a long way and took time to perfect her craft. The New York native always had the perfect sound and natural command for rapping ever since her Love & Hip Hop days. Flow, cadence, clear lyrics, and confidence. Finally, people can understand her in this project because she is truly misunderstood in the industry.
The project kicks off with “Misunderstood” and it’s a befitting intro. She is laying the tone and direction of the project with this one.
Can I talk my shii/Can I holla at y’all for a min/you think you know Dream but you have no idea”
The beat allows DreamDoll to talk her talk, and open up a bit to people who have misconceptions about her. She rallies forth about her situations before making it mainstream, and a little inside story of her internal struggles. I like when she says,
“How the snakes suck you/how the streets got no love but they will f**k you/f**k that I got struck so struck back/ I don’t believe in bad luck”
The second track ushers in “Ass For Days” which is the complete opposite vibe. A notable switch-up. The beat and tempo of this track are upbeat and groovy. Clearly a vibe check kind of track. It’s fun and lives up to its name.
I like the background voices saying, “I got ass for days” it complements Dream’s fun rapping. Her delivery on this song is flawless and a contender for a club banger.
“Twerk Class” ft LunchMoney Lewis follows up, and it’s a treat. I’m noticing the theme of the album with the lineup of these songs. All that happens in DreamDoll’s dollhouse. Dream is pushing her pen and changing flows with this one. I like the “A is for…B is for….C is for.” It’s playful but a nice touch to the song. I’m glad she didn’t opt for repetitive lyrics for this kind of track. It’s my favorite so far.
Next up is “You Know My Body” ft Capella Grey, this song was released late last year with a visual as well. This track, it’s a mixture of R&B and Rap together, a breather which is always appreciated on a Hip-Hop project. Capella’s vocals are clean and complement the beat. DreamDoll’s delivery on this is one of my favorite flows from her. She says,
“If you heard what the F I did/Then you would understand why my pockets getting ed-stuy-big”
She is flowing like butter with her storytelling on this track. This song should be bigger than what it is right now.
DreamDoll switches up again with “Ice Cream Man” ft French Montana and wastes no time jumping in when the beat drops. This is her most hip-hop song on the project. Her New York attitude came out in this cutthroat delivery and lyricism. I was wrong, this is my favorite. But, French was not needed on this track at all. Would have loved a second verse from her.
The Dolls hopped on “Fantasy,” Kashdoll and DreamDoll are the perfect doll-duo in the game. “Life In Plastic 3” has transitioned to a nasty theme. The hook is insane! We need more of this Dream.
“Oh Shhh” is next up and was also released late last year with visuals. A very short but fun track. Here is the music video.
To end the project, she chooses “Frank Stand” and she leaves a statement with this one. A solid finish to the project makes you want more. Life In Plastic 3 is an exceptional project, great job Dream. Now people can understand you!
