Chicago Rapper Dreezy (whose name was inspired by Lil Wayne) became the first Female Rapper to create a collaborative album/project with Hip Hop Producer Hit Boy when she released ‘Hit Girl’ in June 2022. In a recent interview with Posted on The Corner, Dreezy explained that the project came out of her desire to put out something cohesive before her upcoming third solo album, and first as an independent artist since leaving Interscope Records in 2020. As well as Hit Boy, Dreezy is joined on the album by artists Coi Leray, Future, Jeremih, and INK.
Despite taking a more relaxed and less meticulous approach to her writing for the recording of this tape, Dreezy’s bars throughout the project are razor sharp and the production from Hit Boy is insane. The project feels as if she is preparing us for something bigger – which makes sense given the first track is called ‘They Not Ready’ and teases the masses to prepare for her return to the mainstream – under with a new sense of confidence in her business mind and artistry.
- They Not Ready
I like the confidence on this track, the hook is catchy and Dreezy is dropping some big bars about taking her place in the industry. – 8/10
- Jackson 5
IMO she should have started with this song and kept the first verse as a hook, other than that it was really good and I like the Pirelli Skirt bar. The maggot bar was absolutely ferocious. – 9/10
Bitch think she flexin’ in that fit, I told her, “Even maggots fly”
- Sliders
DREEZY FINALLY ENTERED THE CHAT. The Will/Jada and That’s So Raven bar was IMMACULATE and a cute reference to Future being on the track and the singing was good! – 8/10
I just gave him one look and my nigga slapped him for me like I’m Jada
I’m the only bitch seein’ Future in this shit like, that’s so Raven
- Phases
An emotional and reflective track, love her honesty and patience. Powerful hook.- 8/10
“Rather be respected, fuck if I don’t fit the aesthetic.”
- 21 Questions
This song is a flip on the 50 Cent classic, asking her man the extent of his loyalty. A strong singing hook. Love the raps on this. – 8/10
If I start gainin’ weight from stressin’ and lost all the curve to me
Would you lift me up or leave me for a bitch with surgery?
- In Touch
Rigged because I love Jeremih so this was always getting a 9/10. Love this late-night drive RNB Rap music. Dreezy’s singing is crazy. – 9.5
He like it sloppy, I blew his cap off like Bobby
He can’t be with no other bitch, I don’t even want him on the Molly
- Balance My Lows Ft Coi Leray
This was the first single off the ‘Hit Girl’ project, released in May 2022. I really liked Coi’s verse, it was hard and had versatile flows. Dreezy complimented well, but in my opinion, the song definitely favored Coi. – 7/10
- Easy
Bars throughout, a little slow with the beat but her lyrical quality doesn’t give up. I like the way she switches flows. – 7/10
- Vibez
The beat is hard and Dreezy sounds strong and confident from the start. As usual, her bars are witty and she blends rapping and singing. But not the most exciting song. – 7/10
- Real ‘Ain’t Real Ft INK
Love this song, reflective and deep. I like when Rappers start asking rhetorical questions and reminisce on their journey in life. INK’s singing is fantastic too. – 8/10
Seeing Dreezy at the top of the Rap Game has been long overdue. As she said when speaking to Posted on The Corner: “I really was one of the first girls to come up after Nicki Minaj…we had to take a lot of the bullets and figure it out…I definitely had to learn the contract game…just learn the game…this album is going to be my best body of work and the best point in my career”. I can’t wait to see what Dreezy has up her sleeve for her next project.
