KenTheMan just released her first track as an independent artist and the Houston rapper owned the beat.
In a past interview, the rapper made it clear that while she’s no man, her masculine energy is the driving force behind her rap persona, and ‘Not My Nigga’ is further proof of that.
The track’s heavy bass-filled beat was no match for her energetic, lively, staccato-like flow. It’s so bouncy, it feels like the perfect theme song for hydraulic low-riders, and to be fair, KenTheMan rode the hell out of this one. The hook is not the typical melodious catchy break you normally expect.
She merely switches her flow and delivers her lines in a more choppy way, lending more power to her delivery.
The lyrics give us an idea of what it takes to qualify as the lyricist’s N*gga and it looks like you have to be TheeMan and nothing less.
I been on some 304 shit,
she spits. The line brings to mind her 2020 mixtape ‘4 Da 304s’. The project brought more eyes and ears her way and she’s kept both glued to her by never dropping the ball in any hook or verse.
Her fans definitely ran it up. Just an hour after its release, ‘Not My N*gga’ claimed the 14th spot on the Apple HipHop charts and made the cover of the popular Spotify playlist, ‘Feelin’ Myself’ and the Pandora ‘Women In HipHop’ playlist.
The song is being well received, and it definitely deserves more streams, more plays, and everything else in between if you ask me.
Ken is definitely no Barbie. She’s a Super Freaky Girl who stays in her bag and the bag of any man who fits her criteria. This year alone she was named one of the ‘First on SoundCloud’ 2022 class and made the ‘XXL Freshman’ class of 2022. If there is a throne for the taking, ring the alarm because TheMan is on her way to claiming that spot.
