Southern femcee, Big Latto has come back with a polarizing song ‘Pussy’ which is aimed to promote female empowerment. The song discusses topics including Roe vs Wade, women losing basic rights to their bodies, men speaking about what women do with their bodies, and men fetishizing lesbians along with many other topics in her verses.
Do you feel empowered?
The concession online is that Latto has missed the mark with this song. Maybe it’s the right message, wrong delivery? She includes key phrases said on social media by various activists and keywords throughout the song. The female empowerment-themed chorus chants,
“Girls, you cand o what the guys do, (we can do what y’all do)
And still be a lady (And still be a lady)
Girls, you can do what the guys do, (I was worried ‘bout some pussy, took it)
And still be a lady…”
Maybe there’s a little confusion?
In verse two of the song, she raps about being incapable of entertaining insecure situations and people. She specifically demands that you better be a man if you want her to be his woman and doesn’t like when men are in other women’s social media comments.
What is the song giving?
Before we get into the reviewing of the song, I must point out that she sampled Beyonce’s song ‘Upgrade You.’ It automatically gives her song a confident vibe which she embodies as usual in all her current singles.
This isn’t a track that has much replay value, the lyrical content talks about relevant topics, and the Beyonce sample could’ve been utilized better. The song has an important message, but it earns an overall rating of 2.5/5 stars.
