It appears competition for the song of the summer is still beginning. After a couple of teaser clips on social media. Saucy Santana finally dropped the expected club banger featuring Latto. Yeah, pride month has officially begun with this spicy track. As a dedicated music head, I love when artists know who they are and then work it through their music. Santana doesn’t shy away from being himself through social media posts, music, interviews, and so on. Latto has a work ethic that is commendable. Together? Explosive.
I won’t lie when the intro begins. I wasn’t sure which direction the song would take. I was skeptical when I heard a sampling of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” because the original song samples Chi-Lites’ “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So). Those are big shoes to fill. But as the song progressed, the pre-chorus blended perfectly with the tempo of the beat. As the song swayed to the chorus, Santana switched his flow. This was certainly a pleasant surprise because it kept me interested in what his verse would sound like. The repetition in the chorus makes the song unforgettable, and the remnants of that “Booty” time a thousand stays stuck in your mind hours later.
Booty might be a club banger, and a TikTok hit. I’m already envisioning the LGBTQIA community, influencers use the pre-chorus in dance videos all over Instagram reels and TikTok. The song and the lyrics are inclusive, relatable, and enjoyable. One thing I completely commend Saucy Santana is his ability to exceed expectations with his delivery. When he announced the release of this song. The song cover automatically tells you the idea of what the song will entail. Hell, the song name “Booty” already gives you a hint. Vision? A summer hit. Goal? Nailed.
Did Latto Add To the Song?
Since the snippet of the song gave me an idea of a potential summer hit, I wasn’t expecting a load of clever lyricism from both rappers. But I was hoping for a fresh sound from Latto. Her delivery on “Booty” was clean and full of gusto. This song is Latto’s typical style, so she shined brightly. What I was yearning for from her this time was upping her game on thorough storytelling and detail. Did she deliver on that bit? Definitely, and that surprised me.
She says,
“Love it when I poke it out and it that fake sleep (Ugh)
Hit it from the back, makin’ beats like Tay Keith (Ugh)
Girl, he love it here, I’ma shake it like dice (Shake it)
Wrapped around my finger, eatin’ booty from the bite (Ooh)
Booty make him cry, booty make a nigga swipe
Booty walk him in the store and tell him, “Hurry up and buy it
(Shake what your doctor gave you)”
These two rappers delivered verses that mirror their personalities. I appreciate how they both skillfully presented verses that relate to their lives. The track also covers the embraced culture of BBLs and other cosmetic surgery trends. Relatability is what will make this song become one of the hottest club bangers. Santana and Latto need more collaborations together because they complement each other so well. The Yin and yang in Hip-Hop culture. The perfect blend of the new leader of Queer rap and the new IT girl of female rap.
I can hardly wait to hear this song over club playlists and at house parties. This is undoubtedly a song of the summer contender.
